The first thing you need to do, and I mean right now if you're
looking to lose water weight as fast as possible, is limit your salt
intake as much as possible. Stop adding salt to any of the foods you eat
and try to use herbal spices instead if you need to add some extra
taste. Consuming salt will increase the amount of sodium in your
bloodstream, which would have been otherwise dangerous if the body did
not respond by diluting the blood by adding some extra water to it, and
that equals extra water weight. Please remember that most restaurants
add absurd amounts of salt to their food, particularly fast foods.
Next,
make sure to consume foods rich in potassium, as it helps to regulate
your body's fluid balance. Some easily found stuff that contains a lot
of potassium are: dried apricots, avocado, raw bananas, brussels
sprouts, dry dates, kiwi fruit, orange juice and oranges in general, and
baked potatoes. The last one contains the highest amounts of potassium
of the bunch - over 1 gram per average-sized potato.
Avoid eating
simple carbohydrates / sugars. Consuming those elevates your body's
insulin levels quickly, and insulin is associated with heavy water
retention. Though this does not mean that you shouldn't drink anything! A
minimum of 8 glasses of water should be consumed per day anyway - don't
worry, you will pee over half of it out. The rest will stay in your
system and help you feel healthy and refreshed. Many people make a huge
mistake and simply reduce their daily water intake to 1 or 2 glasses a
day, hoping that this will help. The result is that their body, noticing
a lack of fluids, will try to hold on to every single bit of water that
they consume. Consequently, you may even GAIN water weight if you
reduce your fluid intake drastically! Again, stick to a minimum of 8
glasses a day and you'll be fine.
I also read a report by
MayoClinic which concluded that doing 30 minutes of fast-paced walking
or jogging helps your body get rid of any excess water it may have clung
to; most of it will leave your body through the processes of
perspiration and urination. Definitely something to consider.
Finally,
I want you to remember that it will take anywhere from 4 to even 10
days to lose excess water weight. Make sure that you plan ahead, and
that you have all the necessary foods readily available to you so that
no time is wasted.
